Hey friend,
I don’t know about you, but motherhood, more than anything, has revealed cracks in my soul. Motherhood did not cause the sin, but it certainly exposes them like nothing else. I have never been so aware of all the ways in which I lack patience and wisdom and humility.
And so, as the song goes, the best book to read is the Bible. This is absolutely true. But sometimes the Bible is hard to understand. We must grapple with a text that was written in different languages and cultures to us. That doesn’t mean that we should not read the Bible, we absolutely should, but we must also be prepared to dig for the goodness that is contained there.
But thankfully, we are not the first or wisest people to read the Bible. There are beautiful, good, truthful, helpful resources to help us do this. But good books cost dollars and motherhood often means that we are BROKE.
Or, if we do manage to get the 45 minutes to Koorong, holding a fussy baby on the hip, and trying to restrain a toddler intent on pulling down every. single. book from the shelves, how do we pick what is good?

A library.

I want to get good Christian books into the hands of tired mothers. We can do better than crumbs of scripture from Instagram. I want books to help mothers explore the Christian faith and books to help Christian mothers mature in the faith (i.e., learning how to pray, or read the Bible for yourself, or read it with others).
So, friend, my scheme is simple. Below is a list of Christian books that we have sold on the bookstall or have been read and vetted by our team.
We would love for you to donate either a gently used copy or new copy of one of these books. But, before you do, please take your book and write a note inside the cover with a verse of scripture that you are praying for the woman who reads that book. Please flick me an email (gbcplaygroup@substack.com), so I can remove it from the list.
The plan is to keep the books at the Welcome Desk so you can take them out and return them at Playgroup. We will also keep book review forms at the desk so you can jot down a short review to be featured in the newsletter. And, most importantly, it will be FREE to borrow.
Let’s pool our crumbs together friends. Let’s spur each other on to grow in our understanding of God’s word together. Let’s become mothers who are growing in patience and wisdom and humility, crumb by crumb, day by day, in the season of little kids.
Love,
Bec
