Three Things #1
Summer Edition feat. water play days, Insta poetry & south side coffee shops. ☀️
Hey there,
Welcome to Three Things, the new playgroup newsletter! Gloriously low-key, quarterly newsletter featuring three things for you: dates for the diary, beautiful and encouraging words, and fun things to do in our hood. We got you!
Dates for the Diary
Thursday 18th March - Water Play Day - bring a change of clothes and/or bathers for the kids.
Thursday 1st April - Easter Fun Day - feat. Easter Egg Hunt. This is also our last playgroup for the term.
Saturday 17th April - Mum's night out at Gelare Carousel. We will be there from 7pm. Join us for dessert and child-free conversation. No need to RSVP. Call me on 0402 591 271 if you can’t find us.
Thursday 22nd April - Playgroup starts back for Term 2.
Pretty Things to Read
Things Children Say by Kate Baer gives me the giggles every time I read it, and this essay makes me want to text my friends about paddle pools and banana bread. I love what she says about learning to depend on others. And this is stunning, “tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” Gets me every time.
Fun Things to Do
Best kid friendly places to get a coffee in the South East. Hit me up with your recommendations if you know a place that is not on the list! Eating is a hobby, right?
Fika on Brix, Mills Park, Beckenham - good coffee, great breakfast, and looks over a massive nature play park. Win-win.
Hidden Espresso, Kelmscott. Amazing coffee. They roast their coffee on-site, so you can even buy your beans direct from them.
Timber, Harrisdale - all the pretty hipster vibes. Bonus points for being close to Napoli Mercato. Meander down there after coffee, ogle the antipasti, and get a gelato.
Foliage Coffee and Co, Kelmscott - two birds, one stone. Go for coffee, leave with ten plants. Cool cool cool. They also have a kid’s corner stacked with puzzles and colouring 👌🏻
BLVD Speciality Coffee, Canning Vale. The dessert cabinet is dangerous. They make all their own. For me, the best is a tie between peanut cheesecake and choc fudge brownie.
Ruby's Bakehouse, Leeming - get a coffee and a pastry. Walk across the road to John Connell Reserve to the fenced-in playground, under shade sails, and surrounded by big, shady trees.
Blue Sky Bread, Roleystone - go for the amazing sourdough bread and baked goods, grab a coffee, and head to Borello Park under the willows and let the kids play on the playground. Pro tip: you can order your bread online for pickup because they sell out fast!
Raeburn Orchard, Roleystone - buy beautiful seasonal fruit like apples and stone fruit and avocados and get a coffee while you're there. They also make their own cider.
Lastly, but most important - text a Mum from playgroup to come join you 🙌🏻
Check out the Park Play at Robinson Park, Gosnells, on Friday 26th March, 9.30-11.30am. These are free events put on by the council. No need to RSVP, just rock up. 😎
GBC Women's Meet and Greet - Meet women from Gosnells Baptist Church (GBC) on Saturday 20th March, 7.30pm - 9.30pm. We're meeting in people's homes to hear how they became Christians and how God is working in their lives. For more info, chat to Sally Brown, who is on the women's committee. Please RSVP by 14th March to liesl.theaart@gmail.com.
And lastly, Glorifying God in Motherhood (GGIM) run a series of bible-based talks about how the Christian faith applies to mothering little kids. They meet in people's homes on the last Friday of every month for a talk, food, and discussion. This year has a mix of talks from the book of Titus, panel interviews on parenting decisions, and discussion of character traits. Most of the women who present are associated with Trinity Theological College and/or Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students. Everyone welcome to attend. Upcoming events are on Friday 27th March and Friday 24th April. See their Facebook page for more information.
If you have any suggestions for fun things to do for the May edition, let me know!
As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call me on 0402 591 271.
Love,
Bec
PS. Don't miss the next one!
